The role of the private sector In Jordan during the last decade has been declining as a source for providing contraceptive methods , this was clearly reflected in the faltering position of private doctors and NGO's( especially the Jordanian Association for Family planning and Protection ). Currently 58 % of women use private medical sector as a source for obtaining modern family planning methods .
The private sector role has been emphasized in the Jordan Reproductive Health Action Plan ( RHAP2) and a new component has been developed for this intention. This component incorporated five interventions to enhance the private sector position in the achievement of the strategic goals of both the National Population Strategy and the Contraception Security Strategy , besides encouraging this sector to participate actively in the programs to increase the demand of population for RH and family planning services .
This study was justified on the ground that the private sector can play a major role in the future as an important partner with the public sector in strengthening and expanding family planning and reproductive health services in Jordan .
This study is also highly needed to provide necessary and base line information about private sector health providers to support phase two of the reproductive health action plan 2008-2012 since previous similar national studies are lacking .
